How To Utilize Your T-Shirts Properly

By Quincy Cann

Take one minute to think about your wardrobe. If you are a male between the ages of 18 to 30, there is a greater-than-average chance that the majority of your closet is dominated by t-shirts. Don't be ashamed of your massive collection. You fall right into a demographic of people who not only wear t-shirts, but also LOVE their tees. Comfortable, cheap, easy to clean, and fun are all apt descriptors for your collection. Why wouldn't you love your t-shirts?

While the layman may look at a t-shirt and merely see a very simple piece of fabric with holes cut out of it for the arms and head. What they aren't seeing are the multitude of uses the t-shirt fulfills for its owner. One of these uses is for a handy "working shirt". The working shirt is typically put on when someone needs to wear something they don't care about. A working shirt began its life as any other t-shirt, but an errant meatball or fallen glob of salsa has changed it into a handy t-shirt for painting in or doing outdoor chores.

Every man with a sizeable t-shirt collection has at least one that they rely on as their "go-to" shirt. This t-shirt is mostly worn to impress others. It can have intricate and artful designs, funny script, or be one of the very hip "vintage" variety. Whatever type of shirt it may be, the "go-to" tee is worn exclusively because the wearer thinks it makes them look cool and casual. This is founded in the belief that it will get them women, because women just LOVE a guy who's idea of dressing up is putting on a clean t-shirt.

The last type of most commonly-used t-shirt is the "night shirt". The night shirt is hardly ever worn, which makes it an anomaly of the t-shirt world. Sometimes the "night shirt" is a favorite shirt of an ex-girlfriend or one that the ex-girlfriend slept in when she stayed the evening. When the male drinks heavily, he will oftentimes remove the sacred "night shirt" from the closet to smell longingly.

One day this same man who wears t-shirts almost exclusively will grow into his full adult form. Not all t-shirts will be pushed aside, but many will give way to clothing more suitable for a professional environment. The permanent addition of a female and children will phase the man into the "casual polo" era. Once there, there is no turning back. The man is now an adult and the t-shirt becomes a thing of the past.
