Cauliflower makes a great substitute for those who love potatoes. Simmer the cauliflower in a tightly covered pot with chicken broth and chopped onion. When it's tender, puree it and add spices to your liking. You will create a yummy side dish for suppers including all the nourishing capacity of the cole varieties (including cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and others) with a small amount of carbs.

You do not need to avoid restaurants completely when you are dieting. Remember that restaurant portions are often quite large. One way to avoid overeating is to ask your server to for a to-go container when you order. You should cut your meal's portions down to size when it arrives and pack the excess as leftovers before you dig in. In addition to your having avoided consuming excess calories, you now have a great lunch for the following day.

Keep a food diary. It is not necessary to jot down every calorie. When you write down what you are eating, you can watch your consumption more easily. You may be surprised and see that you're consuming much more than you previously thought. If you know what you are eating you will be more aware of your choices. Pizza lovers should take note that there are alternatives to the calories carried by most pizzas. Blot pizza slices with paper napkins to limit your grease intake.

If you want to successfully lose weight, try having the majority of your meals prepared at home. When you eat out at restaurants you can make better choices. Home cooked food is often cheaper than dining out, so eating at home will also help you stick to your budget.

Wear comfortable clothing instead of clothing like tight skirts, heels or suits that can be restrictive. It is easier to feel like walking when walking is easy to do. It's great if your work environment is casual, or at least has a casual Friday that you can take advantage of.
