How To Maintain FJ1200 Carburetors

By Randi Boyer

All internal combustion engines whether they are one stroke or more require fuel to run. Typical for gasoline engines there are several components on such engines that must deliver the fuel through a jetting process to be combusted. Such components are like the FJ1200 carburetors for motorcycle engines.

It is critical to understand how this fuel injecting component works. With such knowledge the fuel consumption process can be adequately optimized. In this way the engine performance of the motorcycle is made more efficient. This tuning process essentially ensures that the fuel is appropriately delivered and that the combustion is maximally accomplished.

The general working of this kind of equipment is dependent on atmospheric pressure. The variations in pressure between the combustion chamber and the equipment cause the gasoline to flow. In this way the carburetor pumps the fuel and air into the combustion chamber through a jetting process.

This fine spray mixture will be ignited by a spark delivered by the spark plug which is part of the ignition system. Therefore the mixture is burnt up during this process. This provides the driving force of the engine.

Generally enhancing the performance issues for this component and the engine in general requires expert judgment. Apart from ascertaining the general condition of the mechanical parts of the engine it is vital to also consider the fuel delivery system. In fact whenever the engine is running poorly a best bet would be to troubleshoot the fuel delivery system.

It is pertinent to use the right kind of spare parts or kits during the overhaul process. These can be purchased from certified dealers and with such parts fitted the engine efficiency will be enhanced. Getting particular model type parts is very important. Other factors to address also include factors such as air temperature altitude and humidity which also affect engine performance.

Notably when the temperatures are cold the engine takes in more fuel. This is in order to counteract the increased number of molecules present in the chamber because of the low temperatures. This implies that as it gets warmer inside the combustion chamber there are less air molecules and as such less fuel is consumed by the engine in this state. At higher altitudes there are fewer air molecules in the chamber and so less fuel is consumed. Generally an increase in humidity increases jetting in which case more fuel will be consumed.

Ultimately there are many considerations that contribute toward the proper working of such engine components like the FJ1200 carburetors. The overhaul of such devices will require kits and spares from genuine and certified dealers. This is to ensure that the maintenance process is a success. Generally other external factors such as altitude and air temperature must be considered especially at the time of adjustment of this equipment. It is pertinent to understand that engine performance is directly related to the fuel consumption efficiency. Based on this the settings to the carburetor must be carefully carried out. This may include the air screw needle jet and needles being cleaned and adjusted.
