Common Methods For Asphalt Patching

By Chandra Zane

When the pavements in your residence are starting to give in, you may have to find the most efficient method to treat it. You may either choose asphalt patching or repaving it entirely. Most homeowners prefer the first option because of its cost-efficiency and ease. Most especially if the damages are far from serious. This can provide considerable improvement to the potholes in a simple and easy way.

Some homeowners prefer to have the damaged pavements resurfaced. This is a cost-effective and easy option to fix superficial damage. There is no need to remove the affected areas. They are just patched with heated asphalt. This can save the effort, cost and time from cutting out the damaged areas before replacing them.

Another option may be more costly, but its effect is permanent. This is ideal for problems that have deeply affected the very foundation of the pavements. This is used when the pavement's base has failed, particularly when the area is heavily trafficked. The subsurface are cut to get deeper down the affected area. Then, the base is compacted.

For best results, the areas must be cleaned so the tacking can work effectively. The edges must also be even and straight cut. After the decayed materials are removed, the base of the pavements are leveled then compacted. Then, new patches are applied in two layers, compacting and stabilizing each layer then topping the permanent patch.

During the application of the patches, the contractor may choose either the cold or the hot method. The latter is perfect when you make use of construction materials recycling. Using a recycled material may not be easy, but it is difficult after the asphalts are heated.

This job has to be performed by a professional, though. The process may be complicated for any regular person. The results may not be as impressive if done imperfectly. Not to mention the complexity and risks of the process from the georgia demolition to the application of the patches. The extremely high temperature of the asphalt may burn anyone's skin.

Meanwhile, a cold patch may be easily applied. This can still work regardless of the weather condition. This may be applied in both wet and dry surfaces. After cleaning the loose materials in the pavement, the cold patches may fill in the holes. A shovel, vibratory tamper, hand tamper or truck tires may be used to compress the paving materials.

When choosing the right asphalt patching to use, it is imperative to choose carefully. Consider the extent of the damages, the weather condition, traffic needs and other external factors that may affect the job. Choose one that can provide you the best results in a very affordable cost.
