4 Parenting Variations

By Suzzee Connelly

There are a lot of amusing stories to be told by many grandparents about the birth of their children. Then there are also stories of several hardships that they encountered in spite of the many funny stories. Each and every parent has their own parenting ways. The following are four general styles employed by parents.

Authority: Authoritarian parents rule on just that: authority. Commands are given to children that they must follow whatever the circumstances. If these commands aren't followed, harsh punishment will ensue. These parents do not welcome feedback from their children. In fact, it is met with severe punishment. The children are generally miserable with this type of parenting style. As opposed to feeling a greater sense of love, what they now feel is much more of fear towards their parents. The children have problems with this wherein the males cannot handle anger and the female children are challenged with the feeling of adversity towards change.

Indulgent: Indulgent parents are generally described as lenient. These kinds of parents allow their children to practice immaturity and childlike behavior. These parents expect the children to learn from their mistakes and to fend for themselves in most times of need. Feedback and independence to speak out are encouraged from this parenting style. In cases of arguments or issues, each side to the stories are reviewed and seek to set a compromise rather than discipline straight away. Indulgent parents usually steer clear of confrontation with their children by all means, but do are usually more involved and emotionally closer to their children.

Authoritative: The two parenting styles are a combination of the authoritative parent. They are the happy medium. While expecting proper behavior off their children, they welcome feedback and questioning on certain issues. They're in the position to demand things of their children however they are also able to respond to what their child says, questions and requests. These children have a tendency to be the happiest, most confident and self assured of all the mentioned parenting styles. But then it's really a challenge for any parent to always be a purely authoritative parent.

Passive: Passive parenting is being completely uninvolved. These parents may not be home due to immaturity, work or the like. In this situation the children are being brought up by baby sitters and grandparents. In this situation, there is minimal to no involvement from the parents towards their children.

We look for that you have more happier tales to tell!
