30% Of Large Customers Want To Give Up BlackBerry

By Jack Green

For a long time, RIM's BlackBerry platform has a strong position in the enterprise market. But this advantage is gradually subsided. A recent survey shows that 30% of the large BlackBerry using companies plan to switch to other platforms.

This trend will lead to RIM's market share continues to decline, and then shake its market dominant position over the years. For the competitive pressures from mobile platforms such as Apple's iOS and Google's Android, RIM has not made a strong response.

RIM acquired the QNX operating system in the April of 2010. But so far it only launched the incomplete Tablet PC on the basis of this and made the commitment to improve the smart phones. RIM this week released the BBX operating system support the mobile phones. It claimed that this is the best BlackBerry platform and QNX platform.

But this is only an announcement. The mobile phones using the platform will be launched in 2012. Although it is only a few months from 2012, RIM spent a long time in transferring from an aging software platform to a more competitive platform. While during this period, RIM's business and consumer users are easy to lose patience and then to join the other platforms.

The actual number of users of RIM's BlackBerry products has been growing, but the market share is declining. The overall size of the smart phone market is increasing, but many companies used Android products and iPhone. Meanwhile, Apple's iOS platform's iMessage and other innovative services are also posing pressure on RIM. To make matters worse, the recent Blackberry mail service has interrupted for several days, further affecting the willingness of people to buy RIM's products.

Although BlackBerry said the basic service has been restored, it is clear that interruption in service is a fatal mistake for BlackBerry that regard secure and stable communications as the core competitiveness of the firms. It is enough to make the market abandon it. It is generally believed that a wide range of network paralysis will make BlackBerry's market share further fall. RIM needs to do something to reverse the current situation.
