Am I Depressed - Transforming to a Lifetime That is Free

By Burton Rager

There are many signs of depression. To some it is like living life in a box that keeps closing in on you; to others it is just like you have on sunglasses and your world is getting darker and darker; to others it is where daily tasks become impossible to perform and you feel fully lifeless.

Many people have faced some type of depression in our lives, but some of us may handle depression on a regular basis. For people that do, the manifestations of depression can be life altering.

At some point many of us will either experience the impact of depression, or will have a personal relationship with someone who is dealing with depression.

Am I Depressed?

Depression regularly shows itself, even at the start, with symptoms and signs that are simple to recognise. If you find yourself in a lengthy period of unhappiness and feeling lifeless, or it becomes difficult to handle standard activities and living life takes on an appearance of darkness, you will have your answer to "Am I Depressed?"

Other signs are: decision-making becomes impossible, difficulty sleeping or oversleeping, sleepiness and lack of motivation, pessimism, being absolutely exhausted, depression sets in, either not eating or overeating, never-ending worrying, and even thoughts of suicide.

If you can answer yes to even a couple of these symptoms, the beginning of a chronic fight with depression may be well on its way. Not a list to live life by. Glance at the definition of depression:

The first definition is a condition of psychological turmoil, typically with a total lack of energy and difficulty in maintaining concentration or interest in life.

The second definition shows an even more dreadful kind of depression: severe low spirits and dejection, accompanied by sensations of apathy and inferiority. Commonly referred to as clinical depression. It can be caused by hormonal imbalance, brain dysfunction, or other conditions. Individuals who are suffering from clinical depression need the help of specially trained doctors and Christian advisors.

Godly Point of View

Do you suspect God made you? If you answered yes, and you are facing depression, you'll wonder if something must be seriously wrong. First let me emphasize that there are several Christians, people in the Bible, and non Christians who cope with depression; it touches all areas of life. Faithful folks aren't proof against depression.

Being depressed does not necessarily imply God is crazy at you, nor it is thanks to a shortage of faith. It also does not necessarily mean that you are not saved, or do not love God, or 1000 other statements people will make. Please put all of that to rest. There are enough stigmas attached to anyone that has depression already, and they don't need a greater burden. They require their burden lifted.

Don't Be Surprised

We often think that painful trials, for example being depressed, should not be part of our life. If they are , there must something radically wrong. This verse can be terribly freeing because God is telling us not to be surprised, neither is it peculiar if we are experiencing suffering or agony in our life.

Dear friends, don't be shocked at the distressing trial you are suffering, like something strange were happening to you.
