Guitar Strap Buying Can Be Easy

By Zeke Pique

Buying and choosing guitar straps can be easy. If you need one for an acoustic or electric, bass or 6 string, they are available in many styles, colors, patterns and sizes. They are typically made out of leather, cotton or nylon. These materials make them very durable. Because of their durability, most often, musicians purchase them because they prefer to, not because they need replaced. When straps do need replaced, it's because of the tabs that are on each end have either ripped or been stretched too much.

When looking for a new one, you can either go to a music store, or purchase one online. Going to an actual music store can offer you the ability to try one on, adjust it to fit, etc... Going online will offer you a much broader variety of styles and give you the opportunity to see straps from around the world.

Depending on your guitar type, the strap you need may need to be longer, or more adjustable. This is because bass guitars, that typically hang under the waist, require longer/adjustable ones. Whereas electric and/or acoustic guitars are either played on your lap or positioned above your waist and do not require such a long one. Whichever you decide, either one can easily be found.

The prices are pretty much the same regardless if you purchase online or from the store. Most of the time the cost can vary. The more you personalize or custom design it, the more it will cost. A lot of artists prefer to engrave their names and/or initials into it, or have other custom designs added.

As mentioned, durability is usually never an issue. Since they have a long life, sometimes you can come across guitar straps at garage sales, thrift stores or online as "used". These purchases are perfectly safe and fine to make. It never hurts to have multiple ones.

Colors, patterns and designs make your purchase experience fun and specific to your personality. You can get custom designed, or Christian logos, or secular, the choice is yours to make and add character to your instrument. Many famous guitar players carefully choose what they buy and put on their instrument. Also, they at times get sponsors to provide them with instrument accessories like this.

Finally, there are a lot of makers and manufacturers of these products. From Gibson and Fender to Washburn and Ernie Ball, you can review all the many varieties from famous brand makers to ones you have never heard of.
