Asbestos Solicitor: Making A Claim For Asbestos-related Illness

By Bryant Pavel

Have you been suffering from a disease that is asbestos-related? It is very common these days to find industrial disease cases such as those of related to asbestos. Exposure to asbestos for many years or repeated exposure to it even for a short period can have a big impact in one's health and life.

Diseases such as asbestosis, mesothelioma, Pleural Thickening, and lung cancer are associated with exposure to asbestos. Mesothelioma pertains to a cancer of the peritoneum or the lining of the lung.

Meanwhile, heavy and prolonged exposure to asbestos dust can develop to lung cancer and asbestosis or scarring of the lungs. A less serious condition than asbestosis is pleural thickening, a type of diffused scarring in the lining of the lung. Inhaling microscopic asbestos can cause these lung-related diseases. For this reason, a person who is removing the coating or working with a surface covered with asbestos must have protective clothing and mask on. That the workplace should be sealed is also necessary.

If you are suffering from any of these illnesses, you can make a claim and be entitled to compensation benefits.

Such claim, called asbestos compensation claim, normally runs on a "no win no fee" basis, which means that you will not be charged by an Asbestos Solicitor for legal cost for bringing the claim. Thus, if your claim is unsuccessful, you would not pay anything and if the case would be successful, the solicitors will recover most of the expenses from the other party, on top of your compensation.

The law says that you have a period of three years to make the claim from the time that you became aware of your condition. If the victim passed away as a result of the illness, his or her close relative can also bring a claim on his or her behalf and this can be done within three years from the date of his demise.

These days, a majority of people already understand the problems associated with asbestos. A long time ago, ceiling decorations were made with Artex Asbestos. Unlike before, Artex today is not much of a health risk as long as asbestos is left on its current state, meaning you do not just scrape off the material from your wall. If your wall is built with materials containing Artex, you can have it removed by a professional since walls tend to be more susceptible to damage in comparison to ceilings, thus posing more probability of hazard.
