Asthma Wheezing Treatment: Minimize the Risk

By Eddy Kong

Wheezing is a sign that one is having a shortness of breath. It is a symptom to a variety of serious illnesses. Two of the most common are asthma and heart disease. Both are contributors to fatality statistics in the United States. For this reason, wheezing should be an alarming sign. It can result from a wide range of possible diseases. A person who starts wheezing should be taken to the physician to be diagnosed. Immediate help should be sought from professionals for correct diagnosis.

Wheezing is one of the most dangerous signs that needs medical attention and should not be taken lightly. Whether it is a first occurrence or successive incident, wheezing is a risk. For instance, if it is accompanied by breathing difficulty, bluish skin, altered mental state, especially if it is caused by an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or medication or worse, the person might already stopped breathing. If wheezing is accompanied by hives and facial swelling, the throat is most likely inflamed and this already needs emergency medical attention.

Prevention is better than a cure as some might say, but in the case of wheezing how can this be applied? There are some cases where and when people wheeze due to the sudden change of weather. Studies show that wheezing in United States often occurs between summer and spring. This of course projects that wheezing is a symptom of allergy. Allergic reactions to pollen, chemicals, pet dander, dust, foods, or insect stings are the most common causes of wheezing resulting from allergy. Allergy is very alarming because it can worsen into complications that can be life-threatening.

For people who suffer from chest pains with wheezing it can be due to a heart related illness. It's always been known that heart failure or cardiac arrest is the leading killer disease today, and wheezing is often related to this. If wheezing is often experienced, it is not only accompanied by chest pain but also swelling legs or feet. Due to its seriousness, people who experience this should seek the doctors help to know the underlying heart disease so that it could be treated early on.

Persistent wheezing can be a symptom of something really serious. It is a good idea to take action immediately when wheezing starts to get worse. Treating the wheezing equals potentially preventing the illness that may follow it.
