When looking for new bathroom tiles you are often presented with a huge variety of different colors, patterns, shapes and sizes. They are important as they form the foundation of many modern bathrooms designs. There is no doubt that selecting the right tiles can significantly enhance to design and style of your room.

Ceramic is usually the most common material from which tiles are made as they are resistant to damp, cheap and durable. They can also be readily glazed in many different designs. From a safety point of view they are great as they tend to be safe when wet and they are also easy to clean. If you have a young family you should look into increasing the safety further by choosing a slip resistant tile surface.

I would not recommend an unglazed tile as the have a porous surface which can easily stain and as such often more difficult to clean. You will find that tile come in many different shapes such as diamond, hexagonal and more commonly rectangular. This allows you to create many complicated and stunning designs.

Stunning designs can be achieved by mixing different color combinations of tiles. It is important that this is done correctly and that the colors complement each other. if you want to take this further you could also produce a mosaic effect. One of my favorite styles which is simple yet distinctive is to use the same tiles for the floor and the walls and to lay them diagonally. You can also find grout in many different colors to further enhance your design.

A more contemporary appearance can be had by using bold colors schemes, graphics and different combinations of shapes. Using these combinations with some of the more contemporary style fixtures and fittings will give you the most elegant and modern look to your room.

If you are looking for a more Victorian or romantic look then using floral soft colored tiles, particularly with flower graphics is a good way to start. To really set the style off a hand painted ceramic sink is a good idea. For a more mediterranean look you cannot beat mixing in some terracotta, preferably hand made, tiles into the design.

It is very important to bear in mind that when choosing the tiles it is advisable to match the colors to the walls, floors and other bathroom accessories. The colors you choose can significantly affect your mood and make the difference between feeling calm or uncomfortable in your new bathroom. Producing the right combination to give a cozy look is recommended. I've met many people who have employed the services of a color consultant to get ideas about the right combinations of colors which can be quite cost effective in the long run.
