4 Tips of Choosing a Great Tattoo You'll Never Remove

By Trippidi Brown

It's a great adventure going in and getting a tattoo - this is all the more so true if it's your very first tattoo! If that is the case, there are some choices you need to make that will mean the difference between a good tattoo and possibly a bad tattoo. Let us review some general pointers to take along with you when you're trying to decide on a tattoo.

1. Be careful using flash artwork. While it's tempting to find something already drawn out for you in the flash art books, consider that this is possibly the same tattoo many others already have. Wouldn't it be more interesting to get something unique? If you've not got any ideas, try finding flash art that you do like, and then talk to this artist. In fact, this is our next point.

2. Choosing the right artist. You'll be happier if you find an artist whose work you admire and sense of style you can envision in a tattoo for yourself. Many will enjoy the challenge of creating original work based on what you tell them or in conjunction with flash artwork. Feel free to ask an artist for their portfolio of work or search for them on line and see if they have an on line gallery.

3. Make the tattoo meaningful, but not hyper specific. This is code phrase for "think long and hard before getting someones name inked into your arm." Words and even obvious symbols you identify with have a way of making bad tattoos. Relationships change, interests change, people change - but tattoos do not. Consider wisely before declaring your loves name on your arm. One exception is getting kids names as tattoos; this is quite nice and personally meaningful and has no potential for regret.

4. Be ready for a little bit of pain but don't worry too much. It's true that tattoos do hurt, no one is going to doubt that. But look how common they are! Somehow everyone else was able to deal with the pain involved. With that in mind, realize you can too.

Tattoos are a fun means of personal expression. Don't waste yours on something silly or trite. Consider making your own with the help of the artist and put some real thought into it. In the long run, you'll be much happier than you would with some simple flash.
