By Melissa Long

The Balinese refers to a domestic cat species that features similar point coloration as those of Siamese but with a coat that has medium to long hair in length. Because it mutated from Siamese, people often refers to it as purebred long-haired Siamese although to a lesser extent. The only observable differences with Siamese are a plumed tail and silky long-haired coat. Many people own this cat in their homes because they make excellent family pets. For someone who is in need of buying Balinese kittens for sale, this article should be able to offer some assistance.

There is a lot of similarity between Balinese and Siamese in all other ways. For example, their heads triangular or wedge-shaped, eyes are blue, they have striking color points, and the ears are large. They are the same size as Siamese and the body is masculine. The striking resemblance resulted from mutation and interbreeding of Siamese. Otherwise, the cats are the same but wear different coats and have neat oval paws.

The name of this cat has nothing to do with the Bali Island in Indonesia. It came up after several interbreeding experiments to reveal the recessive long hair gene in Siamese. Initially, it was referred to as long-haired Siamese, a name that was considered to be too long. Thus, the name was changed to Balinese in reference to Balinese dancers. The cat has also evolved into two separate varieties based on their physical type.

This cat has a coat that is medium in length and is silky and soft. However, differences have been observed among individuals regarding length of the coat. The characteristic fluffy undercoat in other long-haired breeds lacks. Mating two Balinese produces an offspring with longer hair coat. Eye color ranges between sapphire and blue with the intensity of the color varying with diet and age.

Newly born kittens develop dark points in their extremities after some time. However, when they are born, the coat is usually pure cream or pure white. The coat color cane be identified at the age of four weeks. Aging causes the coat color to darken more. Warm temperatures in warm regions cause the coat to be lighter than cold temperatures in cold regions.

The cat is generally accepted in seal, lilac, chocolate, and blue colors by most cat fanciers worldwide. Those that have different coat colors such as red, lynx points, tortoiseshell, red, and cream point are classified as Javanese. The name Javanese also has no relationship to the Island of Java in Indonesia.

Like Siamese its ancestor, this breed has been found to be very intelligent, social, and playful. Activities around it interest it a lot and it prefers to vocalize in low tones. Research has found that it is the most intelligent long-haired cat breed. Human company makes it very happy and it will move around its owner jovially when in the house.

The cat is claimed to be less troublesome to people with allergies in comparison to other breeds. It also produces a lower amount of protein allergens Fel d4 and Fel d1. Breeders and clubs are corking in close association with each other towards identifying evidence of hypoallergenic quality.
