The town itself has about 10,530 residents, but an hour's drive will take you into either San Antonio or Austin, both of which are about a 65-mile drive from the town of Fredericksburg. San Antonio is south of Fredericksburg, while Austin rests to East of the town.

If you aren't a huge fan of cold weather and snow, you will be pleased to note that the temperature rarely dips below freezing in this part of the state, which is known as Texas Hill Country. Winter temperatures typically range from highs of about 65 degrees with lows in the high 30s. Summers can be quite hot, with the highest temperatures in July and August.

Fredericksburg might be small, but there is certainly is plenty for residents and tourists to enjoy. Hundreds of thousands of visitors head to Fredericksburg to visit antique shops enjoy the charm of the downtown historic district or to enjoy tours of the many wineries, the whiskey distillery or take a tour of the local Pedernales brewing company. In addition, you will find special events each month. Perhaps the biggest event of the year is Oktoberfest which is held in honor of the German heritage so prevalent in this community.

Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, who commanded the Pacific Fleet during the Second World War, was born in this town and to honor him, the Admiral Nimitz Museum and Historic Center was created. This is a popular local attraction and it is a portion of the National Museum of the Pacific War. Fort Martin Scott Historic Site is another local site popular with those who love history.
