Eliminate Bathroom Odors Using These Tips

By Eula Nichols

Toilets have bad connotations in human minds. The germs you associate with in these facilities, the image you have from public restrooms as well as the fact that you have to take care of all this mess leaves these facilities somewhat tainted. The worst taint of all for this facility is the taint of smell. This bad smell can emanate from the wall, tiles, sink, the drain or the bathtub. However, you should pray that it is not from the septic tank because that can really stink. All in all, you have to make sure that you are able to eliminate bathroom odors without causing more harm or aggravating the situation.

In your effort to get rid of that usual smell with your toilets, you need to first identify the smell which of course is not like that of flowers. Here you should be ready even for the most stinking smell. Your toilet can smell musty, like urine, feces or sewage or even a smell of something that has died somewhere in this facility. So you need to identify the source of the smell and move from there.

You can remove bad odors using different methods. First and foremost, illumination using a wooden match at the center of your room will help in eliminating all unpleasant odors. This is because the match emits sulfur dioxide that surpasses the other bad smell. This is a solution for a short while that will help in saving you from embarrassment.

One of the simplest methods of ensuring that your toilet smells better is by aeration. This means that you should open the toilets window so that fresh air to have entry. This method can only be used in good weather conditions especially during sunny days. There are other methods to use if this one is not applicable in your situation.

One can also use hydrogen peroxide or white vinegar to dissolve the odor-causing cud. Another way is lighting a candle in the facility. You can use either scented or unscented candle. To reduce the fire hazards, set a candle that has a strong fragrance in the room. This way, it will cover up odors instead of removing them but the bottom line here is the room will smell better for a while.

In other cases the toilet may tend to smell salty, to eliminate this situation just use a cleaning agent that has ammonia. The process entails cleaning your facility with ammonia solution only once and specifically on the outside. Do not mix bleaching agents with this solution since the most obvious outcome is that an explosion may result and it may cause harm.

You can also use the baking soda. This is a very good odor absorbent. The amount you are going to use will depend on the size of the toilet. Put adequate amount and leave it for several days in order for the reaction to take place. Remove the baking soda and replace with another batch. Leave it for a couple of days gain, continue with that trend until your toilet smells better. For stubborn stenches, it is advisable to use hydrochloric acid. However you have to be very careful in its usage as it can mess up with the floor or bowls.

Last but not the least, you can use charcoal to eliminate bathroom odors. It is very effective in soaking up odors. There are other methods that are available should the above mentioned not work for you.
