James Malinchak's Get Up When Life Knocks You Down Part 1 of 10 CD #2

By Liam Martin

John: Welcome to You Can Achieve More Than Ever Before with James Malinchak. This segment is called Get Up When Life Knocks You Down. I am your host John Beede and today I am going to be picking the brain of achievement guy, James Malinchak, who is one of America's most requested keynote speakers. So lets get right into it. Lets start talking about the specifics.

James why did you want to put together a CD dealing with adversity?James: Because anyone listening to this, I don't where you were born. I don't know what your background is and we have a variety of different people listening to this, but there is one thing that I know for sure that every person listening to this has in common. It's the one thing that I know for certain every single person in the entire world has in common. It doesn't matter if you're tall or short, rich or poor, old or young, male or female. It doesn't matter where you came from. It doesn't matter where you're going. It doesn't matter what your goals are in life.

James: Because anybody listening to this, I don't where you were born. I don't know what your background is and we have a variety of different people listening to this, but there is one thing that I know for sure that every person listening to this has in common. It is the one thing that I know for certain every single person in the entire world has in common. It doesn't matter if you're tall or short, rich or poor, young or old, man or woman. It doesn't matter where you came from. It doesn't matter where you're going. It doesn't matter what your goals are in life. There's one thing I know for certain that everyone of us in the entire world has in common and that one thing is this. We all go through difficult situations. We all face adversity. We all face challenges in life. We all get knocked down in life.

Since we all go through adversity and we all get knocked down in life it just made total sense for me that I really needed to have a CD in this program that helps people get through challenges, to turn setbacks into comebacks, to turn adversity into opportunities. When I do my presentations for corporations or for companies or associations or schools or colleges and Universities there's one thing that's consistent that I constantly hear from people in the audience.

When I do my presentations for corporations or for companies or associations or schools or colleges and Universities there is one thing that is consistent that I constantly hear from people in the audience. They will come up to me and no matter what my topic is, no matter who I'm speaking for there is at least one person in every audience that will come up and say, "I really needed to hear that. I was down in the dumps today." Or, I have been going through some difficult times in my life and I am glad I came. I didn't want to come, but my boss made me come. I will hear from college kids, "my professor made me come, but man I'm glad I came" or "I am glad my boss made me come because I needed to hear what you had to say today."

John: That's wonderful. James: I just wanted to put a CD together because I know it's for certain that we all face difficulties.

John: I think everybody listening to this can agree to that and everyone can think of at least one challenge that is in their head right now that they're going through. James: Absolutely.

James: Absolutely. John: You say that there are 5 keys that can help anybody overcome any challenge. I want to hear what these are. What is the first one?

James: Absolutely.

John: So it starts in your head.

James: I deliver these in my motivational presentations because it is so important. Again, I know that everybody in that audience is going through a challenge whether it's personally or professionally or financially. I want to say there are 5 keys and the first key is that you've got to choose the correct attitude about yourself everyday when you're blessed to wake up in the morning and flip open your eyelids.

The attitude you choose about yourself is going to determine your attitude about life. How you decide to see yourself is how you'll see life. How you decide to see yourself is how you'll see your job and what you get out of your job or don't get out of your job. How you decide to see yourself is how you'll choose to see other people. Hear me now. How you choose to see yourself is how other people will see you. You have to remember that when you're dealing with prospects or customers or you're interacting with people and trying to build good quality relationships.

James: It starts all in the head. Absolutely. That is something that you will hear consistently throughout this great program You Can Achieve More Than Ever Before that it all starts with the mindset, the mental preparation. Right here, if you would like to get through troubled times, it all begins with having a good attitude before you're going through the troubled times, the difficulties, but also if you're already in a difficult situation the only way you're going to get out is to begin with the foundation of having a great attitude.

John: Never (laugh). Of course.

James: If you are listening to a particular radio station and that song comes on the radio that you like to hum or tap your toe to or you like to sing. While you are listening to that song, if there's a little static on the station, do you listen to the static?

John: Never (laugh). Of course.

John: Oh. Yes. James: You get off the static and you get tuned into the station that plays the sweet sounding music that you want to hear. It is no different for our lives. We are going to have static on that station when we wake up sometimes.

John: So we just need to find that little dial and move it just a little bit.

James: You need to adjust the dial and get yourself off the static, off the negative thinking, faraway from negative people who might be pulling you down. You have to start looking for the station that plays that sweet sounding music that you want to hear.

Here is the greatest thing of all. Every single day when you and I are blessed to flip open our eyelids in the morning, our attitude is a choice. It is just a simple choice. It is not rocket science. That is the first thing.

James: You need to adjust the dial and get yourself off the static, off the negative thinking, faraway from negative people who might be pulling you down. You have to start looking for the station that plays that sweet sounding music that you want to hear.

It is making the decision to turn the dial. It is making the decision to get away from those negative thinking people who are pulling you down. Its making the decision to look for the positive things in life.

One of the things I always like to say is the only real difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra; the E-X-T-R-A that comes before the word ordinary. It's deciding to turn the dial. It's deciding to escape from those negative thinking people who are pulling you down. It's deciding to look for the positive things in life.

You've got nothing positive that could actually come from focusing on the negative. You start to defeat yourself more. Your emotions go down the drain. You begin to sink yourself into a deeper hole if you will.

The only way to pull yourself up by the bootstraps out of that is to begin focusing on the positive and what can happen and what do you need to do to overcome this challenge to get through the difficult situation.

That's why I say choosing the correct attitude and I emphasize choosing because it's a choice. Choosing the correct attitude is to critically important.

One of the things that I also say is that you have to be ready and you have to expect to do great things in your life. You have to be ready and you have to expect. You've got to be ready.

I learned in Psychology 101, my freshman year at the University of Cincinnati the importance of being ready because when you're ready for certain things that gets you to expect certain things. I learned the importance of expectations in Psychology 101, my freshman year at the University of Cincinnati of why it is so important to expect great things out of yourself.

Here's why. You don't get what you want in life. You get what you expect. If you expect an average performance of yourself, if you expect average production, if you expect average results, if you expect negative things that always happen to you do not be surprised. That's what you're going to get because that's what you're programming you're subconscious mind for and that's what you're subconscious mind is moving you toward and it's what's attracting to you.

John: So let me just clarify real quick. If I want something, if I want excellent performance that doesn't matter. If I expect I am going to get mediocre performance or okay performance that is what I am going to get.

James: Absolutely.

John: Regardless of what I want it's what I really believe that I'm going to end up happening.
