The Missionary call: Being a missionary

By Penelope Mandate Brown

"Go into the world", Jesus instructed to Christians all over the world, to all the people who live on earth. Nonetheless, there is a distinction here. He is NOT speaking to one individual Christian. He is talking to everyone of the Church.

The western civilization is a distinctive society with so many benefits and exquisite birthrights. The people in the west tend to see things in a subjective fashion. Jesus was requesting all the Christians to go out in the world to seek the poor and help them. He was asking to let go of the physical form, to go and help as one soul.

Why is this crucial? Because every single person cannot go abroad to do mission work. That command of Jesus also does not take that for granted. For example, think of war. As and when America is at war, the whole nation is at war, not just the troops who are out there fighting. The navy, army, air-force everyone is fighting at border. So are the supporting nurses, doctors, chefs, engineers, fire-fighters doing their part in the war. Their contribution is equally important.

The engineers or workers working as the ground staff at the air-force base, the workers that build aircrafts and airplanes that also work for making fighter planes, the staff that also makes trucks for the military which are normally engaged in making regular cars, the farmers supplying food for the soldiers, the tailors making clothes for the army men, the people who work to pay taxes to ensure the government is running and the economy is growingif there is economic depression due to these people stopping their work, the entire struggle for the war will go waste. So on and so forth.

Everyone cannot participate in a war when a war is announced when it comes to going to the actual battlefield. A similar comparison is to the Christians going out for missions. If one person was ordered, he will obey his orders and go on the mission as told. However it is a team effort where everyone is summoned to take part in some or the other way to ensure that the order is followed. If required all the people should go but there are some people who are needed as a back up. It does not really matter if you are in battleground or in the background. You are still doing your work. This is called a mission work for a missionary.
