Sport Utility Vehicles For Teenagers

By Freida Wee

Sport utility vehicles (SUVs) vary a great deal. Before you buy your first SUV, there are vital things you need to take note of. These factors will help you make the right purchase. SUVs come in three main groups and thee are compact, mid and full size SUV. There is a wide array of vehicles under each of these groups.

Size of SUV is the very first factor you may want to consider. This will depend with what you want to use the vehicle for. You will find both small sized and large sized vehicles. The advantage of large sized SUVs is that they come with very great engine power, have lots of passenger room as well as the towing ability. It therefore goes without saying that they are highly priced compared to the small sized vehicles. The good part is the each group has what you want including availability of luxury models in all the groups.

SUVs that are car based come with attributes that are generally associated with other cars which include such things as better fuel economy, sharper handling, comfortable ride, more room in the interior and are generally quieter. SUVs that are truck-based on the other hand are sturdier though quite weightier and have an excellent off-road mobility.

Compact SUVs are more affordable than the rest. The midsized and full sized SUVs vary greatly in terms of price. You also have to look at the fuel economy of the vehicle before making your purchase. The compacts have both four cylinder engine and six cylinder engine. The midsized vehicles on their part come fitted with a typical six cylinder engine though there is room for the 4 and 8 cylinder engines.

Safety is very crucial when looking to buy your SUV. There are quite a number of safety features that SUVs come endowed with which include stability control, front seat side air bags, side curtain air bag and anti lock brakes among others. You should be keen to check that all these are in place. For the sake of safety, it is good for you note that these SUVs are wider and heavier than other cars and may therefore not be very agile.

You should also consider the luxury features of your vehicle for the sake of comfort and convenience. Some of the luxury features include iPod interfaces, Bluetooth capabilities, key less start system, automatic climate control and heated seats. You should not overlook features that are family friendly like special storage bins, back seat entertainment system and sliding rare seats among others.

The passenger capacity of the SUV is equally important. Many of the SUVs have a passenger capacity of at-least five. If you are targeting to carry more people, the midsized SUVs would be more preferable since you can add a third row.

Do not overlook the cargo capacity of the vehicle as you make your purchase. This differs from one size to the other with the full sized sport utility vehicles having the largest cargo capacity of up to 100 feet. If you do not need that much, you can opt for the smaller sizes which still have the option of folding seats to allow for a large cargo capacity.
