Snowmobiles Billings MT The King Of Winter Sports

By Doris Rivas

Billings, Montana, is ideally situated for all types of winter sports because of its close proximity to the Rocky Mountains. Snowmobiles Billings MT is one popular example. These cool motorcycles with tracks come in all sizes. Small models for beginners and children have one-cylinder, 121-cc engines and weigh in the region of 147 pounds. Top of the line, professional versions, on the other hand, can weigh as much as 464 pounds and are equipped with two-cylinder engines with a displacement of up to 800 cc.

Snowmobiles are designed for rough terrain in deep snow that other vehicles have trouble with. Billings is situated in Yellowstone Valley, in the shadow of the Beartooth Mountain Range. Red Lodge, a popular gathering place for snowmobile enthusiasts, is also in the Beartooth Mountains just outside Custer National Forest. Big Sky Mountain and the Seeley Lake/Swan Valley area are also powerful draws for the snowmobile driver.

The City of Red Lodge is located in Carbon, Montana, about an hour's drive from Billings and 60 or so miles to the southwest. The Beartooth highway links Red Lodge to Yellowstone National Park in Gardiner. Established in 1872, most of Yellowstone lies within the State if Wyoming, but parts of it spill into Montana and Idaho.

There are several census-designated places (CDPs) within the State of Montana. One of these is Big Sky, which occupies land in Gallatin and Madison counties. Nether a town nor a city in its own right, the main industry in Big Sky is tourism. Skiing, snowmobiling and other outdoor winter sports are carefully nurtured here.

Another, somewhat remote area that caters for snowmobile enthusiasts is Seeley Lake. It is a six-hour drive from Billings and 357 miles to the northeast. Up to date information about local snowmobile trails may be obtained from any designated Snowmobile Information Center, the Ranger Station at Seeley Lake or the Lake Driftriders Snowmobile Club.

The Seeley Lake Driftriders is a snowmobile club dedicated to maintaining an extensive network of safe, high-quality trails within the Swan Valley-Seeley Lake area. As a result, the area contains 365 miles of well-groomed trails as well as miles and miles of good areas for safe off trail snowmobiling. The club website gives details of trail conditions at any given time. While there is no discrete snowmobiling club in Billings, there is a Montana Snowmobile Association that will have details of clubs nearby.

As for other attractions in and around Billings, the city has no fewer than eight breweries. Finding refreshment after a hard day on the powder is not a problem. Other points of interest include the Yellowstone Art Museum, Rimrock Auto Arena, ZooMontana and Bighorn National Recreation Area.

Riding snowmobiles Billings MT is a popular sport. There are plenty of trails in and near reasonable driving distance of this part of Montana. It is a beautiful part of the country with breathtaking scenery and friendly people. There are ample places to stay, eat and visit. If you do go snowmobiling here, make sure you plan your trip carefully and do not go into off trail or ungroomed areas without proper preparation and guidance.
