Funerals and Their Common Features

By Lianne Chalfin

If you try to observe how people conduct funerals, you would find out that Americans and Europeans have so much in common. It is clear that there are reasons for their similarities. One of these is that such countries are predominantly Christian and this alone is a big factor. However, aside from the similarities in terms of rites, how the funeral parlor is adorned is another important aspect that you would find to be the same.

The main thing that could be found in funerals is the caskets where the deceased are placed. Usually, people would go near the casket to view the deceased while at the same time to say a pray for his eternal repose. The practice of using a casket and having it present during the ceremony hails from ancient times and this custom has been kept through the centuries.

In some funerals, music is played although this particular event may well be considered as one that ought to be silent. If music is used, it is often soft or mellow. To show respect to the dead, instrumentals are often the ones played. It is possible though that the music could be very touching and include favorite songs or hymns of the deceased. This can conjure up lovely memories of the deceased and music also can be a source of comfort.

Religious services may be held during the funerals, especially if these are Christian. A priest or a pastor is invited to do the honors of leading the service. Of course, the rites may vary because it would depend on the religious background. It is usually before the services are held that people are given the opportunity to speak about the dead person.

It is almost impossible to imagine a funeral without flowers. Flowers are supposed to be found there and arranged in a manner that would make the funeral parlor or service more vibrant. There are not so many kinds of flowers that would suit the occasion, such azaleas, lilies and roses. Again, these flowers require good flower arrangement, and there are many arrangements created specifically for these solemn occasions.

These days people can order flowers for the funeral without much hassle. One can simply make use of the internet and place your order using an online flower shop that specializes in funeral flower arrangements. This would clearly be a very convenient method of shopping for flowers, and the gift of flowers will be much appreciated by the grieving family.
