Spruce Up Your Kitchen

By Bryan Sanders

The kitchen may be the room in the home where most of your time is spent either cooking, entertaining, or just sharing great times with your family. If you feel as if your kitchen is drab and it needs a pick me up, why not start today? You don't need a lot of money to update your kitchen if the appliances are already newer. Just a bit of paint and a few odd and ends will do.

Color is the key to life when redoing your kitchen. You want the kitchen to get your mind flowing while you cook and to keep you energetic rather than tired and wanting to relax. The kitchen may also be the area you experiment with color such as oranges, yellows, or sometimes just staying with your basic whites or beige.

With all of these above things in mind decide on the kind of look that you want to have achieved once your redecorating is complete. Most women like to have a cozy and warm kitchen so if this is what you have in mind, hang family pictures on one wall or you can hang floral wallpaper on the wall near the entrance of the dining area. If you are looking for a sleeker more modern look, then you may want to choose solid shades or paints that will create texture. Another thing that will help you determine the color your kitchen is the size of the space that you have. As mentioned before warm colors are a good idea for the kitchen, but if the space is small, then painting your walls a warm color will make it seem even smaller. Another thing that can make a room seem smaller or drab is poor floor treatments.

Flooring may be one area in the kitchen where most of the money will go. If you are due for new flooring why not make sure that most of the budget for the remodel is for the floor? It is a larger space and will give you a better feel when entering. Wood, linoleum, or tile is a great way to spruce up your kitchen and its new design.

Area rugs are another way to protect the new floor you've laid down from heavy traffic. Area rugs will also give you a cozier feeling when you are cooking and entertaining. If your kitchen is on the larger side you'll be able to get away with a darker area rug rather than a lighter one for smaller areas.

Just remember, no matter the design and style you choose you'll feel complete after the little things are done. Just a few updates and you're set!
