Selecting The Right LPN Program

By Lizzy Hatpail

If you desire to become a Licensed Practical Nurse, or LPN you have first to study on an approved LPN program which is followed by a State Nursing Board examination, called the NCLEX-PN. Picking the best of the LPN programs available is becoming more and more difficult due to the unanticipated increase in different programs available in recent years.

An LPN program is normally 1-2 yrs in length. The course includes both a study element and a work experience element. The work experience part of the LPN program is called the clinical part, and is important as it gives direct experience of the demands that subsequent LPN jobs will require of the students.

If you are looking for an LPN program that is as short as possible then you would do well to look at the online LPN programs. These type of LPN programs have proliferated recently as demand for LPN students has meant that the LPN schools have tried to throw their catchment net further afield.

If you have family commitments or are considering qualifying as an LPN at the same time as continuing to work in your current employment then the online LPN programs may be your best option. These LPN programs allow you to do your study online and do not need you to turn up to the LPN school for your classes.

Improvement in medical techniques have meant that the number of medical procedures which require subsequent services provided by LPN's has increased significantly. In addition the population is living longer and therefore LPN services will be required more and more as the aging population needs more and more elderly care.

The result of the increase in demand for LPN services is that competition for LPN jobs is not significant. There are in fact a shortage of LPN's compared to the number of LPN jobs available.

There are clearly plenty of opportunity to be taken advantage of in the nursing world. The basic requirement to enrol on an LPN program is to have achieved a High School Diploma. This makes the world of the LPN accessible to many.

As you can see, LPN programs are flexible, and prolific and the entrance requirement for prospective students are not too onerous. Hopefully this article has allowed you to appreciate why a career as an LPN would be rewarding and fulfilling.
